TRAPPIST-1: the sonata and its dominant seventh

The TRAPPIST-1 system hosts seven Earth-sized, temperate exoplanets orbiting an ultra-cool dwarf star. As such, it represents a unique setting to study the formation and evolution of terrestrial planets that formed in the same proto-planetary disk. I will present an update on the dynamics of this remarkable 7-planet resonant chain and show how the architecture and planet properties inform us about the formation pathway of the system. I will also show new results obtained from the most recent transit timing data that challenge our current understanding of the system’s dynamics and architecture.
