The SHINE Exoplanet Survey

Monday 2 July, 16:20

SHINE is a large direct imaging survey of 600 young, nearby stars using the dedicated planet imager VLT/SPHERE instrument, aiming to detect and characterise planetary systems, and to place the strictest statistical constraints on the properties of giant planets and brown dwarfs on wide orbits. With observations beginning in 2015 and planned to conclude in 2020, we are more than halfway through the survey, with many exciting and important results to date. In this talk, I will give an update on the status of the survey, including preliminary statistical results and some scientific highlights such as the first new planet and brown dwarf discoveries.
